The structure of hyaluronic acid is very simple and that is the reason why it is so difficult to retain it inside the body. Hyaluronic acid molecules are actually unbranched chains of simple sugar that are highly sensitive to ultraviolet light and that is the reason why the skin loses much of its hyaluronic acid content on exposure to ultraviolet light. So, how to increase Hyaluronic acid inside the body and retain it?

We already know the importance of Hyaluronic Acid for the body, but the problem is the skin is not able to continue generating the same amounts of hyaluronic acid as a person ages and much of what is already present in the skin gets easily be generated because of stress and exposure to ultraviolet light. You can retain hyaluronic acid inside the body and also increase Hyaluronic acid content by leading a healthy lifestyle and by eating foods that are rich in hyaluronic acid:

  • Foods containing Hyaluronic acid are essentially those that contain a lot of simple sugar molecules. Such foods include potatoes, green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale, roots such as sweet potatoes and carrots and also some Asian vegetables such as satoimo, konyaku and imoji.
  • As mentioned earlier, hyaluronic acid is highly sensitive to ultraviolet light and heat; so, eating vegetables raw is a good idea because that preserves the hyaluronic acid content inside them. If eating raw potatoes doesn’t sound like a good idea to you, maybe you can accept the other hyaluronic acid containing foods mentioned above as salads or snacks.
  • It is very important that you drink plenty of water. In case you didn’t know, the basic function of hyaluronic acid is to retain water content inside the skin and if you don’t think plenty of water, your present hyaluronic acid content could degenerate faster.
  • Even though the role of hyaluronic acid creams in helping the skin produce more hyaluronic acid is debatable, but hyaluronic acid creams and ointments containing 2.5% hyaluronic acid are definitely capable of making your skin smoother and healthier for at least as long as you keep applying them.
